Stewardship

Certis Europe seeks to ensure that its crop protection products are used in a sustainable way to maximise the benefits and to minimise the risks associated with their use in the best interests of all direct stakeholders and the wider society.

Certis Europe has adopted the principle of full life cycle management of its products from their discovery and development to their use and phase-out and final disposal.  This active product stewardship policy is based on the International Code of Conduct on the Distribution and use of Pesticides (Food and Agricultural Organization, 2002). The overall aim of product stewardship is to ensure that crop protection products are used in a sustainable way, to maximize the benefits and to minimize the potential risks, in the best interest of all direct stakeholders and the wider society.

To achieve this Certis Europe actively:

  • Promotes the safe use of our products by education, guidance and training to customers, contract applicators and farmers.
  • Invests in the development of new products, Integrated Crop Management (ICM) and in the development of improved application and mitigation techniques.
  • Cooperates with various parties and stakeholders at both national and international level investing in and promoting best practice and management of plant protection products.

Certis Europe has implemented product stewardship responsibilities as part of key role profiles at corporate and national management levels.  For further information about specific stewardship programmes, please explore the links below.

CIPC & Store Cleaning

Following the decision of the European Commission not to renew the use of the active substance chlorpropham (CIPC), the European organizations in the potato chain have jointly drawn up a manual for cleaning stores where chlorpropham has been used. The manual supports growers with storage in achieving maximum reduction of chlorpropham residues in order to reduce the risk of cross-contamination as much as possible.

The manual can be found here at the AHDB: https://ahdb.org.uk/CIPC-store-cleaning
