Certis attended Potatoes in Practice (PIP) last week in Dundee, where it was great to see hot topics being discussed by growers and the industry.
Most growers were very positive ahead of the coming harvest period, with crops looking good with predictions for a strong season.
The Hutton Criteria was a key focus at this year’s event, with positive feedback being received for the new warning system. Many growers noted that there had been more warnings but up to this point less actual blight seen in the crop.
This demonstrated the fact that robust blight control programmes have worked very well this season helping to reduce the amount of blight infection seen.
Finally, talk turned to the new resistant blight strain seen in Europe and in the UK. This only reiterates the need to stay vigilant to resistance and make use of alternative modes of action.
Overall the event was a great success with a positive outlook ahead of harvest and next season.
